Canon Dr Andrew Wingate is honorary Inter Faith Adviser to the Diocese of Chichester.  He is an Anglican priest, and his inter faith experience goes back 40 years- in South India, where he taught in the Hindu ‘capital’ of Tamilnadu, Madurai, in the Tamilnadu Theological Seminary, for 7 years, then in Birmingham, where he was Principal of one of the Selly Oak Colleges, and then in Leicester, for 13 years, where he was founding Director of the St Philip’s Centre for Study and Engagement in a Multi Faith Society.  All three places enabled him to engage closely with Hindus, and Muslims and others.  He has published several books, the most recent being in 2016, Why Interfaith- stories and challenges from Northern Europe (DLT), and The Meeting of Opposites? – encounter between Hindus and Christians in the West, SPCK, 2014).   Another much read book, now in its fourth printing, is Celebrating Difference, Staying Faithful (DLT).

Andrew will reflect on his experience of inter faith encounter, in Britain, in India, and in Sweden (where he has gone often in recent years), with special emphasis on the encounter with Hindus.
