Creative writing Workshop run by Sara Deco during the “Exploring Forgiveness” Festival

Sara Deco, local storyteller and community arts facilitator opened our workshop with a captivating telling of the conception and early life of Hercules.  The story drew together scattered threads to create a tale rich in material to contemplate forgiveness – adultery, kidnap and death, madness and infanticide, revenge, choice and destiny.  We came to our writing in creatively different ways; identifying with a character in the story, writing a conversation with a character, sharing reflections and insights with other participants and drawing out individual words to create poems in response to the Hercules story and those of the exhibition.  It was an engaging, surprising and light way to consider serious issues and a wonderful way to end the Exploring Forgiveness programme started ten days earlier.
